The Danish chef René Redzepi, considered one of the best in the world, points out the Godello variety as one of his favorites.

René Redzepi, owner and chef of Noma -considered the best restaurant in the world in 2010, 2011 and 2012, and currently second in ratings behind Can Roca - declares the local variety of Valdeorras, the Godello, as one of his major preferences.

"Are you Galician?, the Godellos are some of my favorite wines" this is how Redzepi greeted Gabriel René Fraga, a journalist to whom he granted a juicy interview and which was echoed in the newspaper La Voz de Galicia.

With a not very bright academic record, Redzepi decided to devote all his attention to the kitchen and, after going through some of the most important restoration centers worldwide as the Bulli and The French Laundry in California, decided to open in Copenhagen, his Danish homeland in 2004 and when he was just 30 years, a restaurant that has given - and for sure will give - lots of good things to talk about: NOMA.

Using only local products of a cold, giant and totally unknown region to the world of gastronomy and with the challenge of developing dishes from these fresh, seasonal products, René Redzepi has achieved international success and has been rated as one of the best chefs in the world, a fact ratified by the international awards that point to NOMA as the best restaurant in the world in 2010, 2011 and 2012 by the prestigious criterion of S. Pellegrino & Acqua Panna.

To make reference to the relationship among this prestigious chef, Galicia and its wines, we focus on the words given to Gabriel Fraga of La Voz de Galicia newspaper:

- "What was it that prompted you to travel to Galicia?

- We went specifically to taste wines, so we were mainly in the area of Rias Baixas. I remember those little villages and the ladies doing the laundry, as if the landscape and its people had stopped in the time. We visited beautiful places and, in fact, these reminded me of Macedonia, the land of my father's family.

- And what about the wines? What did you think?

- I already knew the Albariño, but we were really looking for something different. Then we stumbled upon the Godello, a grape that we didn't know but that, today, is one of my favorite varieties. I love the touch of acidity, balance and fruity taste of Godello. We have included it many times in the wine list of Noma ... "

This evaluation joins those already given by the the Portuguese Manuel Louzada - Winemaker 100 parker points in 2004 - the New Yorker Eric Asimov - wine critic of The New York Times - and the English Jancis Robinson, wine critic of The Times and advisor of the cellars of Queen Elizabeth II of England - and which elevates the quality, differentiation and exclusivity of native wine variety of Valdeorras, the Godello.

To all those who wish to taste this variety - and not just a single wine, but all of them - from the mother of the wine we invite you to attend the next wine fair to be held on 13 and 14 July in A Rúa of Valdeorras .

Since all these great critics can not be wrong ... We will be waiting for you in Valdeorras!

The white Godellos of the DO Valdeorras appellation get four medals in the Zarcillo Awards 2013

Pingadelo Godello, Godeval,  Godeval Cepas Vellas and Bioca Goello are decorated with silver Medals in the Zarcillo Awards 2013.

The white Godellos of the DO Valdeorras appellation get four silver medals in the Zarcillo Awards 2013, a fact that ratifies the great harvest of Godello 2012 in Valdeorras and that positions a this DO as the most awarded among its Galician counterparts.

The Zarcillo Awards were created in 1991 as part of the climax of the events for the European Year of Tourism on the initiative of the Regional Ministries for Culture and Tourism, Agriculture and Farming of the Junta de Castilla y León, with the commitment to hold a national wine contest with the objective of promoting and defending the quality of Spanish wines.

Twenty two years later, the Zarcillo Awards have reached their XV national and their VIIinternational edition. Over the years, it has been consolidated as the most important national event for Spanish wines with the intention of making it one of the most prestigious contests in the world.

The methodology used to give awards to the best wines is comprised of a complex system for receiving the samples and strict control by computer for processing the data provided by the juries. Throughout the duration of the event, the rules stipulate that an expert representative of the O.I.V, with the technical support of the Oenological Station of Castilla y León, must ensure that the standard is complied with. For four days, the best wine tasters in the world and the best trained palates on the planet will congregate to judge which wines are the best in the contest. The rules stipulate that any wine producing country in the world is allowed to participate in accordance with the definition adopted by the International Wine Organisation, whose samples are classified into seven categories: whites, rosés, reds, semi-sparkling, sparkling, liqueur and aromatic varieties

For its part, we present you the wines of the DO Valdeorras appellation awarded in the competition:

Its wines are made with the support of the latest technology and with the varieties Godello, Dona Blanca and  Palomino Fino for the whites and Mencía, Garnacha and gran-negro for the reds.

The Godello of the DO Valdeorras appellation great attraction for the International Sector in Vinis Terrae.

Vinis Terrae, the Lounge of the Galician Wines and Spirits held last week in Expourense, closed its fifth edition after two days of intense activity for the exhibiting wineries and which had more than 500 business appointments with importers of fifteen different countries, as well as with national buyers.

This is the most professional fair of Galicia, since the only purpose of the event is to do business and open new markets, in addition of being the fair with the highest number of  importers per winery than other events of the sector, as highlighted by organizers.

In a national market in which wine consumption drops and new wineries proliferate every year, this event  helped once more to promote small and medium Galician businesses in the international market, which have expressed their satisfaction since "events like this, of small size and high level of professionalism, facilitate direct contact between the importer and the winemaker and lay the foundations for a business relationship in the short or medium term. "

For their part, importers highlighted the quality of the Galician wine and, above all, its personality:

"Galicia has all the advantages for being positioned in the foreign market with the quality segment. Nowadays there are good wines and then the cheap ones. Galicia has to be positioned within the first ones and compete for  quality, not price, since its condition of small-scale production doesn't allow this region to do it", said Bruno Murciano, one of the importers from the United Kingdom and who also stated that "although Albariño is the Galician native variety most demanded in the UK, Godello is emerging strongly."

In the Wine Fair it was also launched the wine of the winery Alan  de Val of the DO Valdeorras appellation and its winemaker, Manuel Sanchez, said the white variety godello "has landed into the American market very well, since the white wines, mainly focused on the variety Albariño, begin to be saturated and now they are receptive to alternatives, which is allowing us to access that market".

"The reds of the DO Valdeorras appellation of  varieties Mencia, Grenacha and Brancellao, are attractive to Northern Europe and the UK and, according to Sanchez, they hope to bring them into the the Brazilian market because, despite de fact that the competition is universal, as there are varieties spread throughout the world, ours are original, established and are already appreciated ".

In  this edition of Vinis Terrae participated importers of  U.S. importers (representing 27 states), UK, Holland, Brazil, Denmark and Spain, which were the countries with highest representation. In addition, the Fair was attender by buyers from Germany, Australia, Belgium, Canada, France, Sweden, Mexico, Portugal and Peru.
