Sélections Mondiales des Vins Canada, the largest international wine competition in North America, gives its Gold Medal to Godello A Coroa 2011

New recognition for Godello A Coroa 2011 that, in just one week, has become one of the most fashionable wines in North America through the recognitions recieved from The New York Times, The Best Spanish Wines for USA and, just yesterday, from the Sélections Mondiales des Vins Canada, the largest international wine competition of this continent.

New recognition of the professional industry of North America to the Valdeorras wines, that has found in the Godello A Coroa one of its greatest ambassadors in North America.

A Coroa Godello 2011, which has been described by The New York Times as the best wine of its variety  sold in the EE UU,  has ratified this distinction a few days later by becoming the winner of the Silver Medal in the competition The Best Spanish Wines for USA and confirming all expectations about its excellence. Furthermore, just yesterday was also honored with the Gold Medal in Sélections Mondiales des Vins Canada.

Sélections Mondiales des Vins Canada is the most important wine competition in North America. It is held. It is held in Canada in Quebec city. This competition of prestige created into 1983 is held under the high patronage of the International organization of vine and wine (OIV), the International union of oenologists (UIOE) and of the World Federation of Major International Wine and Spirits competitions (VINOFED).

In 1994, Sélections Mondiales des Vins Canada was one of the founding members of the World Federation of Major International Wine competitions (VinoFed) comprised of the most important wine competitions in the world, for example: Vinalies internationales in Paris, Vinandino in Argentina, Vino Ljubljana in Slovenia, Bacchus in Spain, Mondial du Pinot Noir in Switzerland, Mundusvini in Germany, VinAgora in Hungray and Premios Zarcillo in Spain.

The samples submitted were evaluated by an international jury of 79 experts from over 27 countries across 5 continents, whose members are recognized for their competence, integrity and independence.

With this new award, 'the promise of the spanish wine', a name with which the variety Godello was qualified by The New York Times, has almost become a reality, giving a well deserved award to the wineries that belong to DO Valdeorras, in general, and to the winery A Coroa, in particular.

New North American professional wine industry awards the DO Valdeorras Godello "A Coroa 2011"

A Coroa 2011 receives a silver medal in the competition named The Best Spanish Wines for USA,  held in Miami Beach and that follows the trail of the Challenge to the Best Spanish Wines for Asia, held in 2011 in Hong Kong.

If a few days ago the professional sector leading critics of the U.S. wine industry were considering the Godello as the great promise of the spanish international wine world, yesterday arrived  new recognition that gives prevalence to the great prestige of the DO Valdeorras  in the USA market.

Again, the Godellos of the winecellar A Coroa, after being rated the best godello marketed in the USA by The New York Times, becomes the great ambassador of the Galician wines in North America, winning a silver medal in the competition The Best Spanish Wines for USA.

This award joins the following received by winery A Coroa in 2012: Gold and Silver medal at International Wine Challenge Catavinum, Silver medal at the Lyon International Wine Competition, Silver Bacchus 2012, award for excellence in Select Wine ProWein Challenge 2012 and the Tender of the monopoly market of Sweden.

The jury for this competition was composed of 20 judges, among which included importers, distributors, sommeliers and buyers of the hotel industry in the country. They took part of a blind tasting of a total of 136 wines from different appellations of origin.

Among the tasting committee members it must be highlighted the presence of the chief sommelier of the hotel Ritz Carlton Florida, Jorge Mendoza, the director of Terra Spania Wines, Antonio Gomez, or Cesar Basurto, well known buyer of the recognized  importing firm Southern Wines. The president of the jury was the drinks purchasing director of St. Regis Hotel Beverage Miami, the host institution.

The event's success achieved in this first edition has ensured continuity, and the second installment of the USA Challenge will take place in April next year, with expectations of "increasing the number of wines participating, all these with an excellent value for money" organizers said.

To make clear the importance of the USA market in the wine industry internationally, is only necessary to skim the data received of the report made by  the Vinexpo and the International Wine & Spirits Research (IWSR), which informs that in the USA were consumed 2,800 million liters of wine during last year, a figure that puts the country ahead of wine powers like France and Italy. Moreover, prospects for growth are 10% through 2015.

This new award does nothing but reaffirm the great international prestige of the DO Valdeorras wines that, according to experts, will continue to grow in coming years to bolster the increasingly widespread  maximum which rates the wines of this DO as "the winemaking revolution of the century".

The Winery A Coroa remains the great ambassador of Valdeorras Godello in Germany with the recognition of Excellence for its wine A Coroa Lias 2010 in the International tasting contest Premium Select Wine Challenge ProWein 2012, awarded by the prestigious publication "Selection" and has had the participation of 1500 wines from all wine regions of the planet.

In a country renowned for the prestige of its white wines, the winery A Coroa again reaffirm the winemaking revolution that emanates from DO Valdeorras achieving the qualification of Excellence for Godello A Coroa Lías 2010.

Here we present the A Coroa godello tasting notes:

Brilliant verdant yellow with straw coloured reflections. Complex, elegant and intense. Aromas of mature fruit (apple, pear, melon) stand out, pleasant floral notes of gorse, and the deep hint of fennel characteristic of great godellos.

The wine is big, very fresh, and balanced on the palate. Sensations of mature fruit, hints of balsamic and flowers. Smooth, and gifted with the appropriate acidity.

Long persistent aftertaste with a light varietal tartness gives fullness in the mouth.

Thus, the DO Vadeorras winery reaffirm again its position in the country Teutonic place, where it awared the last year, with the gold medal of Berlin Wine Trophy for its young godello A Coroa 2010
