The star of the day: Portomourisco

Portomourisco is a parish belonging to the municipality of Petín (Valdeorras), has the peculiarity of being a very rocky place situated on the banks of Xares. So to think that its first part comes from portu, by reference to a port or river pass, the word mourisco may come from mor , "stone", in response to the rocky nature of the place, perfectly visible in the cut made by the channel river. Against this we can say that in the Valdeorras region the 55% of the names are Latino, three Arabs and the rest are pre-Roman.
