Synergy as a marriage between Valdeorras wine and Lulavai music

The story of Lulavai started at the "Arts and Crafts School" in Vigo, the place where these four women met. (Paula Oanes, Josefa Fernández, Lorena Reinaldo e Elena Paz) They study celtic harp with the teacher Rodrigo Romaní, and become members of the folk orchestra Sondeseu, playing their music on many different stages in Spain and other European contries. At the end of 2007, they decided to create Lulavai, a new project where the band mixes the sound of celtic harps and human voices, performing with their own sound traditional tunes as well as new compositions. On March 2008, Lulavai was selected as one of the finalist groups of the "Festival Cancioneiros" contest, suported and created by the "Barrie de la Maza foundation. After that they started to play around Galicia and Europe. On April 2010 they public their first CD, "CorDasVerbas".

The commitment of these four artists with the products of Galicia is evidentcon with the collaboration with their song Amalgama  for the development of  DO Valdeorras Web Portal videos. From the mother of wine want to show our thanks, sharing your music with you, our family, at this time so special.

The growing demand Godello Valdeorras, makes it out the bottling of the new harvest more than a month

The depletion of stocks of the 2009 harvest, it makes more holds the Regulatory Council requesting permission to begin the process of pouring the new crop.

The increasing demand for wine Godello, has led to several wineries requested permission from the Regulatory Council to start bottling wine from the new harvest, and thus to meet the growing demand for these wines.

Although the situation is the same for all warehouses, it becomes clear that the Valdeorras Godello is a significant demand situation. Much blame for the foreign market value and demand ever greater extent these wines.

The chairman of the Regulatory Council, José Luís García Pando said that those wineries that do not focus their markets and are committed to export have many more defenses before the crisis which is a feature of the internal market. Thus supporting the initiative that many winemakers have taken the commitment to internationalization of its wines.

The great-value prices treasured DO Valdeorras wines help overcome the crisis in 2010

The number of bottles sold in 2010 is close to 2009 in the Ourense´s Designation of Origin .

The great value price of the wines that D.O. valdeorresa conducive to the units sold in 2010 will equate to those of the previous season with numbers of around three million bottles, temporarily alleviating the crisis.

Prices ranging between six and eight euros per bottle in direct sales, and increase to between eleven and eighteen euros in restaurants, make that Valdeorras wines a successful bet by the consumer. Thus the number of units sold has declined over the previous year, unlike other designations that highlight their products at higher prices. This fact, factors such as specialization are helping consumers in this sector, positioning and promotional policies carried out since the Regulatory Council and the wineries and the boom and recognition that these wines are reaching an international level.

In any case, and from the Regulatory Council, we announced that the situation can be reversed if we maintain the current economic trend, as the budget deficit in the home can affect the purchase of a product that is not considered first need.

The export of wines from Galicia is growing five times more than the rest of Spain, in 2010

United States, UK and Switzerland are among countries that open their palates to Galician wine.

While world wine experts such as American Richard Halstead, Wine Intelligence Chief Executive, qualifies as excellent wines from Galicia including them in the luxury wine category, the Galician winery began its commitment to the international promotion and positioning abroad.

Although the crisis is no stranger to the world of wine. Galician wine industry is fighting fiercely against it based on the production, development and promotion of high quality wines that fail to satisfy the most demanding palates. Not only in Spain, as shown by recent wine awards collected by the different DO Galicia, but internationally as is evident in export growth last year, managing to export five times more than the sum total of the sector nationally.

This adaptation is based on innovation that is taking place in the production of wines from different appellations of origin from which, together with a change in trends, with sights set on the foreign market, make the wine industry in the region a prolific commitment to the future.

galician wine in galician oak, is promising

By: La voz de Galicia
The Galician Oak is presented as an alternative to aged

Tasting wines aged in oak Galicia. This past Saturday was the penultimate activity and Augardentes Hall Wines of Galicia (the last was an evening of jazz), held this week in A Coruña. Before the tasting, Ignacio Díaz Maroto, agroforestry engineer of the University of Santiago, advanced some research data on the use of Galician carballo wine aging, work ID also involving the University of Castilla-La Mancha, the Adega Algueira of the Ribeira Sacra, and Valdeorras Control Board. "Not that we're not inventing anything, because it already did the Romans," noted Maroto.

Year and a half lead with this project and made an initial sample of Valdeorras Mencia and Ribeira Sacra "in order to make a comparison." Two 225-liter barrels, a wine from each area, have served to be recording the first data. Valdeorras barrel was about four and a half months in the barrel "and you take it out." The Ribeira Sacra is almost ten months. The first one "has a slightly roasted, that's when the barrels were in contact with the smoke, not fire, because the wines here can not stand the superior roasted having, for example, rioja" Ignacio Diaz explained. In the case of the barrel with Ribeira Sacra "is not roasted to compare, to see what happens without any external interference", he said.

Marcial Pita, secretary of the Spanish association of journalists in the wine tasting, addressed these wines bred  Galician oak, an investigation will continue with the harvest this year "because sometimes there is a difference between a year and add another, "stated Díaz Maroto.

The expert Luis Diaz, according to which there are some growers, as Ribeiro Eladio Rodriguez, who has long made "a red wine in barrels of forest carballo manufactured in a cooperage in Jerez. "

Maroto, the problem is that in Galicia there are not enough oaks, "some 220,000 hectares." Tooling for barrels, "must be more than 40 cm at breast height," would have about 20,000.

"This is a special timber with songs in tannins and good quality at least equal to that of American oak, and would have to see if the same French oak," he concludes. Proof: Macallan Whisky owners have been raising by Galician oak. Therefore, the future of this pair of 'galician wine in galician oak  "is promising.

The technical director D.O. Valdeorras describes the preparation of the "Jewel in the Crown": The Toast wines of Valdeorras

As we said Jorge Mazaira, head coach of Valdeorras Regulatory Council, the trial started two years ago is gaining strength in recent months

The meticulously detailed and delicate process should follow an extensive and thorough study, since as we forward Jorge:

"First you must set the times of dried grape to produce brown. During this process you should carefully consider the variation of phenolic compounds to be defining the final flavor, and so, to discern if they come when drying or fermentation and aging.

Later we will analyze the aromatic compound to evaluate the possible evolution of time in order to define the aromatic profile of sweet raisin wine grapes.

Another detail that should be highlighted in the analysis is the visual study to differentiate grape raisin grapes and grapes hanging in box.

And finally mind, the whole test is repeated several times to remove the random factor "

With this laborious process attempts to retrieve a variety of wines in the area during the last century and was lost by the act of production cost for these wines bring.

Aging on lees settles in Galicia

The technique used in the aging on lees, while not new, is gaining strength in recent years in Galicia.

This technique, which gives the white wines more structure in the mouth and volume, is the aging of the wines after fermentation, in those parts fine of yeast dead. Through this process the wine is achieved with a longest life cycle, with more body and more complexity on the palate.

This process is optimized by the sensitive technique of "batonage" which is to suspend the lees during aging for wines with more fat, with the potential of fruit, better balance structure / fat, and above all much more stable against to oxidation.

In Valdeorras highlights several wineries producing wines using this technique, including Virxen de  Galir Godello with lees. Learn more about the winery, by clicking here.

Data from the 2010 harvest in Valdeorras

The official amount of grapes harvested is 4,330,292 kilos, a considerable decrease in quantity compared to last year. Not in quality, where the technical chief of the Denomination of Origin, Jorge Mazaira, described as very good quality grapes.

With the arrival of the last grapes to the winery of A Rua "Rafael Palacios" was closed in the last hours a harvest that began on September 7 Valdesil cellar.

The untimely winter devastated the area of Valdeorras this season, led the outcrop of diseases afflicting mainly the varieties Alicante and Jerez, considerably reducing its production to a figure of around 620,648 and 433,992 kilos respectively. Varieties being more significant in the region, Godello and Mencia, which better withstand the elements, maintaining production at levels similar to previous seasons with 1,737,071 and 1,515,003 kilos.

It should be noted that this vintage is the highest level of health they enjoyed the grapes at the entrance to the wineries. The fruit that managed to overcome the winter diseases, led to an optimum level of maturity due to high summer temperatures and dry endorsed by the soft rains of early September. All in all, are expected to add 2010 about wines of great quality, both in the DO Valdeorras as in the rest of designations Galicia.
